Thank you for being my Poppa ~ Daniel Lajos Bedocs
A son rarely tells his Father just how he really feels,
a handshake, a nod, a pat on the back, is often all he reveals,
many words unspoken remain well overdue,
I hope you’re listening Poppa, because this is just for you.
Thank you, Poppa, for everything you have done,
your hard work and sacrifice are plain to everyone,
you were certainly no ordinary man,
I’m proud to admit, I was and still are, your biggest fan.
Thank you for always making the time,
being there when I needed you, and always so kind,
giving sound advice and showing the way,
thank you, Poppa, for each and every day.
Thank you for being consistently strong,
for being such a rock when things would go wrong,
just when I thought the world had me beat,
you were right there helping me, up on my feet.
Thank you for never giving up on me,
for encouraging me to be, all I can be,
thank you for making my dreams come true,
I hope that you're as proud of me, as I am of you.
I imagine tomorrows without you still here,
but deep in my thoughts, you will always be near,
ice creams and fish ‘n’ chips on bright sunny days,
we shared so many memories together they can’t take away.
‘Hello Boyo’, a greeting I won’t hear for a while,
your Hungarian-Welsh accent, it still makes me smile,
you gave your heart with this simple hello,
but for now, it’s goodbye and time to go.
High up in heaven your light will shine bright,
the memories of you stave the darkest of night,
no storm nor thunder will frighten me,
while you’re in my dreams, my soul is set free.
With four wonderful children, all of my own,
I’ll pass on the love and strength that you’ve shown,
look over them Poppa, from high up above,
send them your wishes, send them your love.
One day at a time, so promises the song,
but some days I’m weak, and others I’m strong,
the years will come fast, the years will go slow,
the tears I hold back may still never flow.
I guess what I’m really trying to say,
is, I miss you Poppa, in every way,
remember these words as we lay you to rest,
how greatly I feel that I have been blessed.
‘Thank you for being my Poppa,
you really are, the best’.
